Requirements:
• Doctorate in veterinary medicine.
• Knowledge of spelling and meaning of commonly used veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
• Ability to properly restrain patients.

Duties:
• Perform physical exams
• Arrive promptly for exams
• Document medical records accurately and maintain patient medical records and reminders
• Conduct diagnostic testing and interpret results
• Perform surgery and complete surgeries in a reasonable amount of time
• Manage anesthesia and radiography
• Prescribe medication
• Consider and address patients’ pain and comfort for all surgical and medical procedures
• Handle emergencies
• Euthanize animals when necessary
• Update treatment records on a timely basis
• Update anesthesia/surgery log and controlled substance log in a timely manner
• Collaborate with other doctors and staff on medical cases and client communication
• Teach staff members about medical and surgical procedures and philosophy
• Communicate with clients verbally and in writing
• Follow discharge guidelines for hospitalized and post-surgery patients and provide treatment plan guidelines for clients to ensure proper patient treatment in the home environment
• Advise clients about infectious diseases, feeding, behavior and preventive care to promote the health of patients
• Explain instructions and diagnoses to clients in easy-to-understand terms
• Give accurate estimates/treatment plans and obtain permission and signatures from clients before starting treatment
• Offer the best care for patients without judging clients’ willingness to pay, and let them decide which services and products to buy
• Oversee medical care of boarding pets

Duties:
• Assist veterinarians with veterinary medicine and surgery in any appropriate capacity
• Obtain and record patient histories, vital signs, and weights
• Perform in-hospital lab testing and prepare specimens for reference labs
• Dispense and administer medications, vaccines, serums and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
• Administer fluids and blood products as prescribed by the veterinarian; use and maintain IV pump.
• Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian.
• Provide specialized nursing care for injured or ill animals.
• Prepare patients, instruments and equipment for surgery; clean, maintain and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials.
• Assure that monitoring and support equipment such as anesthetic machines, cardiac monitors, scopes and breathing apparatus are in good working condition.
• Communicate with and educate owners in a compassionate, tactful, professional manner
• Take radiographs – processes rads, demonstrates proper positioning techniques
• Maintain knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations in order to answer client questions, provide education on vaccines, flea and heartworm products, and assist in marketing veterinary services from which their pet would benefit, such as a dental cleaning, senior wellness, spay and neuter procedures, and boarding.
• Educate clients on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use.
• Maintain legally defensible medical records.
• Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.
• Collect specimens and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems
• Assist in diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures using a range of high-tech diagnostic equipment including electrocardiographic, radiographic and ultrasonographic equipment.
• Report diagnostic testing to veterinarians
• Maintain quality controls and record keeping on in-house lab equipment
• Complete proper sample preparation and paperwork for reference lab tests
• Fill prescriptions per veterinarians’ instructions.
• Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, surgery suite, treatment area; all surfaces
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and longevity by vacuuming pet hair from wheels and equipment
• Keep food and drinks out of treatment area and surgery suite; any place not permitted by OSHA
• Discard syringes, vials, containers in appropriate containers
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Requires strong client service skills. Personal contacts are with pet owners affected by a variety of problems, visitors and other healthcare team members. Considerable tact and diplomacy is required. Must accurately relay owner’s account of the medical complaint(s) of the pet(s) involved to the healthcare team member who will be involved in treating the patient(s).

Duties:
• Provide friendly, quality client care to the patients and clients.
• Receive incoming calls, emails. Provide knowledgeable sub-professional advice concerning the care and treatment of animals. Know when to make "client communications" for client questions/ concerns that should be addressed by a medical professional. Know how to screen calls and route appropriately.
• Follow established hospital policies and procedures in referring clients for immediate treatment of their pets when requests are accompanied by complaints of acute symptoms. Determine nature of injury/illness and attempt to reassure distressed pet owners. Determine whether immunizations and/or tests are current. Recommend update of necessary immunizations and/or tests to clients when applicable.
• Schedule appointments, obtaining all necessary data concerning the patient and owner. Prepare all required forms in advance when possible.
• Prepare to receive appointments by reviewing client records, preparing in advance of clients’ arrival.
• Schedule progress exams and enter callbacks at check-out, before client has left
• Check clients in - Greet clients in a professional, friendly, hospitable manner.
• Discharge patients. Review charts of patients being discharged from the clinic for completeness of information, make new appointments or note changes in patient status as necessary. Enter charges and set up future reminders in system. Present clients with medications, discharge instructions, and doctor notes. Echo medical recommendations made by veterinarians when checking out clients.
• Exercise technical knowledge of products sold and demonstrate salesmanship abilities. Explain and demonstrate products, answer questions concerning products purchase/ use.
• Fill veterinary prescriptions with appropriate preventatives; provide routine instructions to owners concerning prescriptions for medications.
• Collect lab specimens from pet owners, match patient record to the sample and submit samples to veterinary technician.
• Assist in the updating of client files; prepare and address New Client, Surgery Confirmation/ Instruction, and Online Pharmacy emails. Follow-up with clients when clinic records indicate no recent visits.
• As required, enter data into the computer system, retrieve and modify computerized records. The practice management software includes, but is not limited to, such areas as reminder list of patients for periodic notifications, receipt and/or invoicing to update medical/financial records; client records, pet records, medical records; word processing to produce letters for general correspondence and etc.
• Perform a variety of clerical duties, receiving, sorting, distributing mail, sending out mailings, cleaning, organizing reception area, type memos, correspondence, reports and other documents. Assist in the ordering, receiving, stocking and distribution of supplies.
• Contact clients whose pets have lapsed
• Work well with all employees and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.
• Assure that all financial obligations are met by owners. Collect client fees, make change, process credit card transactions and assist in making count of cash drawer, run end of day transactions.
• Explain invoices to show value for care provided, stating all services and products provided before the total
• Refer clients to Scratchpay when asked about payment plans
• Collect payment when services are rendered, including making change for cash payments, processing credit cards and getting proper identification when necessary
• Balance cash drawer three times daily and record any discrepancy; run end of day reports
• Know fees for routine services and how to communicate them emphasizing value
• Clean up after pets’ accidents in reception area, exterior sidewalks, and parking lot whenever possible
• Perform other duties as assigned.
